Contactless Payments
The most well-known use. Via Google Wallet or banking apps, hold your phone near the POS terminal and pay. Works at any store with a contactless terminal. With new NFC 2026 standards, transaction speed drops below 0.5 seconds. Supports: debit/credit cards, prepaid, loyalty programs.
NFC Tags — Automation
Buy NFC tags (pack of 10 ~€8 on Amazon). Program them with NFC Tools or Tasker app. Ideas:
Nightstand: tag on nightstand → tap phone → enables Night Mode, sets alarm, lowers brightness, starts white noise app.
Car: tag on car mount → enables Bluetooth, starts Google Maps navigation, plays Spotify playlist, enables Do Not Disturb except calls.
Office: tag on desk → mutes sound, connects to office WiFi, opens work email, sets silent mode.
Gym: tag on gym bag → starts workout playlist, opens fitness tracker app, enables Do Not Disturb.
Data Transfer
Touch two Android phones back-to-back to transfer: contacts, photos, URLs, Wi-Fi credentials. With Nearby Share (which uses NFC for handshake + Bluetooth/WiFi Direct for transfer), you can send large files without internet.

Digital Keys & IDs
Hotels, offices, and garages increasingly use NFC digital keys. Store them in Google Wallet and unlock without a physical key. Digital car keys (BMW, Hyundai, Genesis) work via NFC — unlock and start without a key.
Smart Home Control
Place NFC tags at strategic points in your home. At the entrance: tap → lights on, temperature set, security system off. In the kitchen: tap → 10-minute timer, cooking playlist starts, recipe app opens. Works with Tasker, Google Home, or IFTTT.
Transit & Transportation
In cities with NFC transit: tap your phone on the bus, metro, or tram reader. Charges are made automatically through Google Wallet. More cities are adding NFC transit payments in 2026.
Business Cards & Info Sharing
Create a digital NFC business card. Program an NFC tag/card with: website, LinkedIn, phone, email, vCard. The recipient taps their phone and automatically saves your details. Services like Popl or Dot. specialize in this.
Tip: Make sure NFC is enabled: Settings → Connected Devices → NFC → On. Battery consumption is negligible — leave it always on.
